Salvation, in Christian belief, is the process of being saved or delivered from sin and its consequences through faith in Jesus Christ. Faith and obedience to the teachings of the Scriptures leads the believer to a restored relationship with Jesus Christ and the reward of eternal life.
This is a great question. In Matthew 16:18-19, we read where Jesus told Peter He would give him the keys to the kingdom of heaven. In Acts 2:37-42, Peter preached the first sermon of the new church of Jesus Christ and revealed those keys to all who listened. He preached, ‘Repent of your sins, be water baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission or forgiveness of those sins, and receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.’ This is the new birth or salvation experience. Salvation is available to all people. Jesus wants all to come to salvation.
Salvation cannot be “lost.” However, a person can walk away from their salvation. Salvation is only found in a right relationship with Jesus Christ. A person can forsake the faith and return to sinful living. Though salvation cannot be lost; it can be given up.
Salvation is a process, and the new birth experience is the beginning of the process. You are encouraged to continue your relationship with Jesus Christ through daily prayer and Bible study and to learn and apply the teachings of the Bible to your life. You are also encouraged to prayerfully find a church that will be your church home. Scripture teaches that everyone needs accountability in their life.
